RETIREMENT of Dave Shannon
After graduating from high school in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Dave attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana where he met and married his best friend, Vicki Schwahn.
He received his bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from MSU in 1974 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant through the Army ROTC program.
He reported for active duty at Fort Belvoir, Virginia where he completed the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Facility Management Course, and Nuclear Demolitions Course.
His next assignment was helicopter flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was the distinguished graduate of his class and subsequently was assigned to flight duty with V Corp Headquarters in Frankfurt, West Germany.
After completing active duty at the rank of Captain, he returned to Montana, and started his career in the tank trailer industry in 1979 as Engineering Manager for Beall, Inc. in Billings. In 1985 he became General Manager of Beall, Inc. with branch operations in Dickinson, ND, Phoenix, AZ, and Denver, CO.
The Billings plant excelled at manufacturing aluminum DOT specification cargo tanks, aluminum dry bulk pneumatic trailers, and aluminum bottom dump trailers.
In 2013 the Billings plant was stripped of its assets when Beall Corporation was sold. MAC LTT immediately stepped in and acquired the facility so the rebuilding process could begin. Key former Beall Engineering and Operations staff were hired to re-equip the Billings plant, and the production workers were temporarily moved to the MAC LTT plant in Kent, OH where they supplemented their liquid tank and dry bulk trailer production.
All new machinery was installed in the Billings plant and production workers returned to Billings from their temporary duty in Ohio. The plant today continues to produce high quality DOT specification cargo tanks and dry bulk pneumatics that are sold throughout the US and Canada.
After thirty nine years in the trailer manufacturing industry, Dave takes the most pride in being part of the team that took the Billing plant from the dark days of the sale and closure to rebirth with the dedicated crew of skilled workers who continue to build today.
